Reverso - Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is intended to inform you about how Reverso processes your personal data and about the measures implemented to protect your rights, in accordance with applicable data protection regulations, in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the protection of personal data (“GDPR”).

Reverso websites and products may be used without creating an account. However, certain features require mandatory registration using a validated email address or an Apple ID.

As a European company, Reverso complies with the GDPR, which has been applicable since May 2018.

Article 1 – Acceptance of rules governing the use of personal data

By using Reverso websites or products, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted this Privacy Policy without reservation. If you do not agree with it, please refrain from accessing Reverso services.

Article 2 – Identity of the data controller

The data controller responsible for the processing of personal data is Reverso SAS, a French simplified joint-stock company (société par actions simplifiée) with a share capital of EUR 42,500, registered with the Nanterre Trade and Companies Register under number 335 309 993, with its registered office located at 5, rue Soyer, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.

You may contact Reverso’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) at the following address: [email protected].

Article 3 – Nature of personal data

Personal data includes all information that makes it possible to identify you, which you voluntarily provide when registering for one or more Reverso websites or products, or which is processed in connection with your use of Reverso services.

Personal data notably includes registration data, usage data, activity data, and user contributions.

a) Registration data

Registration data corresponds to the information you provide when creating or updating your Reverso account.

A personal, valid, and non-temporary email address is required. Other information may be requested on an optional basis, such as your first name, last name, occupation, language, or date of birth.

First and last names are considered private data. They may nevertheless be made public if you contribute to the collaborative dictionary or to the Expressio website. If you do not wish this data to be made public, you should refrain from providing it; in this case, only your username will be displayed.

b) Usage data

Usage data is automatically collected when you browse Reverso websites in order to provide you with a personalized experience.

For example, Reverso Translation displays by default the last language pair you used; Reverso Documents allows you to view a list of your projects with information such as the date, source language, target language, and word count. This data also makes it possible to calculate the remaining credits on your account.

For this purpose, Reverso collects connection data and cookies, as described in Article 8. This information may be collected even if you are not logged in or have not yet created a Reverso account.

Reverso uses Google Analytics as an audience measurement tool in order to track aggregated statistics and engagement levels (number of visits, clicks, etc.). Additional information is available in Google’s privacy policy and terms of use.

Reverso also retains an anonymized and sampled history of spelling errors corrected by its spelling checker, for the sole purpose of analyzing this data for statistical purposes and improving the services offered.

c) Activity data

When you are not logged in, no personal data is stored by Reverso.

When you are logged in to Reverso Translation, Conjugation, or Spelling services, no personal data is collected.

When you are logged in to Context or Synonyms services, Reverso stores your search history in order to facilitate learning. You may mark certain items as favorites or delete them. Your list of favorites is stored by Reverso, synchronized across your devices, and accessible from your account. By default, this list is private, but you may choose to make it public.

With regard to Reverso Documents, uploaded files and their translations are stored temporarily in order to allow you to consult and review them online. This functionality notably enables side-by-side display of source and target texts. Any edits made to translated segments are stored in your personal translation memory, which is used exclusively for your account and may be disabled when launching a new translation.

Your documents are accessible from your dashboard. You may share them with reviewers of your choice by inviting them via email. Reverso support teams may access them only if you request assistance for a specific project.

You may delete a document or a project at any time; it will then be permanently deleted from Reverso’s servers.

Reverso considers activity data to be highly confidential and, unless you voluntarily share it, such data is accessible only to you.

d) User contributions

User contributions include suggestions, corrections, feedback, or any other content voluntarily published by users for the benefit of Reverso or the user community.

Processing of sensitive personal data

Certain Reverso services, in particular document translation and processing services, may involve the voluntary submission by users of content containing personal data, including, where applicable, data considered “sensitive” within the meaning of the GDPR.

Such data is processed solely at the user’s request, for the exclusive purpose of providing the requested service, and is subject to appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure its security and confidentiality.

Content submitted through document processing services is not made public. It is accessible only to the user concerned, to persons expressly authorized by the user, and, where applicable, to Reverso support teams when assistance is requested.

By contrast, services involving the publication of content for the benefit of the community (in particular collaborative tools and contributory dictionaries) are not intended for the dissemination of personal or sensitive data. Users are therefore invited not to submit such data through these services.

Article 4 – Purposes of personal data processing

Reverso processes personal data in order to enable users to fully benefit from the services offered and to ensure their improvement.

Such processing notably makes it possible:

  • to provide a personalized user experience;
  • to retain users’ history, preferences, and favorites;
  • to enable contributions to collaborative tools;
  • to respond to requests submitted via contact forms;
  • to manage billing and payments;
  • to communicate about products and features;
  • to provide personalized learning content;
  • to store, modify, or review translated documents;
  • to measure audience and service usage;
  • and, where the User has given their prior consent, to serve personalized advertising.

Depending on the case, processing is based on performance of a contract, Reverso’s legitimate interest, compliance with legal obligations, or the user’s consent.

Article 5 – Recipients of personal data

The data collected is intended for Reverso staff, its subcontractors and service providers, companies within the same group, and partners acting on its behalf, in compliance with this Privacy Policy.

Such data may also be disclosed where required by law, regulation, or a decision of a competent authority.

Article 6 – Data retention period

Personal data is retained for as long as the user account remains active or for as long as Reverso services are used.

Users may delete their history, documents, or translation memories at any time; such data will then be permanently deleted from Reverso’s servers.

In the event of account deactivation, Reverso deletes the associated registration data and anonymizes the corresponding user contributions.

Payment data relating to paid services is processed and stored by third-party payment providers (Braintree, Google, Apple).

Reverso implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of personal data, which is hosted in Europe.

Article 7 – Users’ rights and responsibilities

In accordance with the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, and delete your personal data.

You may exercise these rights by contacting Reverso by mail, via the contact form, or by directly updating your account information online. Reverso may verify your identity before processing your request.

Users remain responsible for the content they publish and for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials.

Article 8 – Cookies

Reverso uses technical, advertising, and statistical cookies in order to facilitate navigation, personalize content, and measure audience engagement.

Before any use of Reverso services involving the placement of non-essential cookies, users are asked to express their cookie preferences.

Users may refuse cookies through their browser settings or via the consent management tools made available. Such refusal may, however, affect the proper functioning of certain features.

Cookie preferences and consent management

Users may define and modify their cookie preferences at any time via the Privacy Settings accessible from the footer of the Reverso website.

These settings allow users to accept, refuse, or withdraw consent for certain categories of cookies, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Article 9 – Changes to the Privacy Policy

Reverso reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy.

In the event of material changes significantly affecting the processing of personal data or users’ rights, appropriate information will be provided through reasonable means, such as a notice on the website or within the services.

Continued use of Reverso services after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
